TCN Energises New Transformer in Delta

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has installed and energised a new 150MVA 330/132/33kV Interbus Transformer (IBTR) at the Delta IV Transmission Substation, Ughelli.

Its Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, in a statement yesterday said it was loaded last Sunday and loaded at 15:19Hrs and the following day.

She said the inauguration of the new 150MVA power transformer has restored the capacity of the substation by 132MW.

Edo Police Arrest Alleged Prepaid Meters Thief

Operatives of Edo State Police Command have arrested one Austine Ekhigiator, 33, for allegedly stealing four prepaid meters in Azagba community, Uhumwode Local Council of the state.

The Guardian learnt that the suspect, who resides at No 4, Erediawa Street, Sapele road, Benin, was apprehended at Egba Divisional Police Headquarters.
Ekhigiator, allegedly stole Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) meters installed on electric poles in the area alongside three accomplices, now at large.

Ongoing Plans to Meter 6M More Households-Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in his presentation at the 3rd Ministerial Performance Review Retreat for Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and top Government Functionaries on Monday at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, said that efforts are underway to provide electricity metres for additional six million households in Nigeria.

He added that one of the game-changing achievements of the administration was driving the digital economy, noting that the deployment of the technology would radically transform Nigeria’s digital technology landscape in the next few years.

Nigeria to Achieve 30% Renewable Energy by 2030 – Minister

The Minister of Power, Engineer Abubakar Aliyu, has disclosed that in pursuit of its energy transition, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) is committed to achieving 30 percent renewable in Nigeria energy by the year 2030 in line with the vision 30:30:30.

A statement from the information directorate of the ministry stated that the minister spoke recently in Abuja when the coordinator of the US Government’s Power Africa Programme, Mr. Mark Carrato and his team, paid him a courtesy visit.

$5.8b Mambilla Power Project: Sunrise Floors FG at ICC

The International Court of Arbitration administered by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Paris, France, has affirmed the legal and beneficial ownership of Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited (SPTCL) in the $5.8 billion Mambilla hydro-electric power project.

Sunrise and its Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Leno Adesanya had been involved in a running legal battle with the Federal Government over the unlawful termination of the contract, which was signed on May 22, 2003, but re-awarded to a Chinese firm, Messrs China Gezhouba Group Corporation/China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGGC/CGC).

Equatorial Power and GIZ Partners to Solarize 27 Rural Clinics in Uganda

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Equitorial power partner to provide at least 27 health centres in rural areas in Uganda.

The 150 kWp total capacity of the small standalone solar power plants will be coupled to 1.2 MWh of battery storage systems. According to Equatorial Power, two hundred fifty people’s health in the West Nile region is anticipated to be impacted by the solarization of these clinics. Equatorial Power is expanding its presence in East Africa with this project.

Ghana: ECG Installs 400 Transformers to Stabilize Power in Oti Region

The Oti Regional Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr Emmanuel Lumor, has disclosed that the power distribution company has installed 400 transformers to stabilize the electricity supply in the region.

Aside from the transformers, the manager also said ECG had taken measures to prevent the situation where the company’s poles get burnt annually.

Neoen Inaugrates 8MW Battery Storage Project-France

Neoen, a Renewable energy developer, inaugurated an 8MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in Brittany, France. Last week, The Paris-listed firm announced that the Pod-Tredan project in Côte d’Armor has been online and helping to balance the grid since August.

The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) BESS has a capacity of 8.2MWh. Its discharge duration is slightly over an hour and is the largest in the northwestern region. In Quimper, the LFP BESS was assembled and deployed by the local system integrator Entech Smart Energies.

Ghana President Commissions 330kv Kumasi-Bolgatanga Power Transmission Project

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has commissioned the 330 kV Kumasi to Bolgatanga Transmission Line Project at the commencement of his four-day tour of the Ashanti Region.

The project, which is an integral part of the West Africa Power Pool Project, seeks to reinforce the Ghana Transmission System and ensure the export of at least 100 megawatts of electricity to Burkina Faso to increase the reliability of the Ghana to Burkina Interconnection Project. To help achieve this objective, GRIDCo also constructed a 330kV Transmission line from the Aboadze Power Generation enclave through Prestea to Kumasi.
