Engr (Dr.) Abubakar Atiku Tambawal, is a PhD holder in electrical engineering from University of Stratclyde, UK and is registered with the Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a Fellow of Nigeran Society of Engineers (NSE) and a member Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) of London. He has been engaged in research and development in energy, where he held the position of Director, Sokoto Energy Research Center of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University.
He has developed his career in the power sector by holding key positions as General Manager in the Distribution and Transmission sectors in the former Nigerian Electricity Power Authority/PHCN prior to its privatization. He has also served as Chief Executive Officer at both Yola and Kaduna Distribution Zones of the Power Holding Company of Nigerian. After privatization of the generation and distribution sectors, he was appointed as the Deputy Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) together with Manitoba Hydro International Management Contractors. At the expiration of the management contract (MC), Dr.Atiku took over as the Managing Director of TCN in an acting capacity together with the trained Nigerian management team to implement the gains of the management contract and to sustain the achievements recorded. He also served as the Chairman of the West African Power Pool, WAPP Executive Board (based in the Benin Republic), that coordinates and implement projects for the emergence of electricity exchange and trading among the countries in the West African Sub Region.
Presently, Dr. Atiku is a member of the Ministerial Task Force on Power (MTFP) set up by Nigerian government to advise and coordinate activities of the power sector in Nigeria. He is also pursuing his academic endeavors at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto state of Nigeria where he serves as a visiting Associate Professor in the department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
He is also currently a Director in Data Analytics And Solution Ltd with engagement in consultancy services for the electricity industry. He is happily married with children.
