AEDC MD Urges Teamwork to Resolve Power Sector Challenges
Mr Christopher Ezeafulukwe, Managing Director, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has called for team work among operators of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) to resolve the challenges in the sector.
Mr Donald Etim, AEDC’s Marketing Officer quoted Ezeafulukwe as making the call in a statement on Sunday.
Etim, in the statememt, said that the AEDC managing director made the call while speaking at the Bi-annual joint generation, operations, and Electricity Distribution Company (DisCos) planning meeting in Abuja.
He added that the sector can only grow when the various segments work in unity.
According to him, while there have been improvements since the power sector was partially privatised 10 years ago, a lot of work is still required to meet the objectives of the sector.

IBEDC Looses N3bn to Electricity Thefts Monthly
The Managing Director, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Mr. Kingsley Achife has stated that the distribution company looses over N3 billion every month to electricity thefts by some of its customers.
Achife, who made the disclosure at the Electricity Consumer Complaint Resolution Platform, organised by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), said these customers fall into the categories of those who don’t make payment on their bills, those not paying actual amount and those who bypass their meters.
Represented by the Head, Customer Support, Mr. Ayoola Adio, he lamented that the company run on deficit every month, stating that this prevents it from serving its customers better.
Power Generation Costs Constituted 49.02% of End-User Tariff in 2022 – NERC
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has said that power generation costs constituted the highest share of end-user tariffs in 2022 at 49.02%.
The Commission stated this in its 2022 Market Competition Report.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) highlighted that the expenses related to generating power had a major influence on the total electricity costs for consumers in Nigeria. In the specific period of July to December 2022 under the Multi-year tariff order (MYTO) arrangement, the costs linked to power generation were found to be a substantial part, accounting for about 49.02% of the average end-user electricity tariff.
FG Says Power Transmission Capacity Increased to 8,500MW
The feat was disclosed by state-owned firm, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), who stressed that the new threshold would enable it to evacuate every quantum of electricity churned out by power generation companies, ThePunch reported.
Recall the federal government in 2013 unbundled the power industry, ceding the generation and distribution arms to private operators while retaining the transmission leg of the sector.
Ajiboye Oluwagbenga, TCN’s General Manager, Transmission Service Provider, who spoke on the sidelines of the just concluded Bi-annual Joint Operations, Generation and Distribution Companies planning meeting in Abuja, said the government remained committed to enhancing the nation’s transmission capacity.
