Electricity Consumers Call for Power Sector Overhauling
Electricity Consumers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have asked the Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu to overhaul the power sector in order to ensure stable power supply.
The consumers, who spoke in separate interviews in Abuja, said overhauling the sector would improve power supply and boost the country’s real sector capacity.
The President, Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Mr. Kunle Olubiyo, said the minister should do a surgical overhaul of the regulatory institutions and ecosystem of the power sector.
According to him, the minister should do an appraisal of the performances of all agencies in the last 10 years using benchmarks of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Renewable Energy Experts Pledge Supports for Massive Transformation of Power Sector
Experts in renewable energy have pledged support for massive transformation of the sub-sector as an integral component of Nigeria’s energy landscape.
They spoke at the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) Renewable Energy event with theme: “Renewable Energy: Innovation, Transition, Opportunities, and Challenges” in Lagos.
Mr. Ralph Gbobo, Managing Director, Shell Nigeria Gas, said the theme of the event underscored the transformative journey that the energy sector was undergoing globally.
Gbobo emphasized the importance of transitioning to renewable energy sources to address the challenges posed by climate change and to create sustainable energy systems for the future.

Blackout Looms as Electricity Workers Join NLC Strike
Electricity workers have joined the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in its warning strike over the impact of the petrol subsidy removal on the masses.
On September 1, the NLC announced plans to embark on a two-day nationwide strike from Tuesday (today), accusing the federal government of abandoning negotiations.
The group also said the government has failed to implement some of the resolutions reached at previous meetings.
In solidarity with the NLC, electricity distribution companies, earlier on Tuesday, announced that their workers have joined the strike.

Bluetti Promises to Tackle Power Deficit
A leading clean energy company, Bluetti, has said it will continue to offer alternative and effective solutions to address Nigeria’s power deficit.
The firm in a statement said Nigerians could harness free solar energy and have reliable backups during power outages.
In the statement, the firm explained that its flagship model, AC200MAX, features a substantial 2,048Wh battery capacity and a powerful 2,200W ACoutput (4,800W surge)
The statement added that the 16-outlet power station provides uninterrupted power to most household appliances and essential devices during power outages.

Africa Must Optimize all it Has to Achieve Universal Energy Access, Says African Development Bank Head
African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina has called for investments in renewable energy in Africa, pointing out the continent’s rich energy mix.
In his keynote address (on September 4th) during a session on ‘Harnessing Africa’s renewable energy potential’, held at the ongoing Africa Climate Summit, President Adesina stressed: “Every economy can only go as far as the energy it produces.”
Adesina underlined Africa’s tremendous potential in energy—from hydro and wind power, solar, to geothermal—which remains untapped, in the face of a staggering electricity deficit on the continent. Africa has an almost unlimited potential of solar capacity (11 TW); abundant hydro (350 GW), out of which only 5-6% is being harvested; wind (110 GW), of which only two percent is being used; and geothermal energy sources (15 GW), he said.
