Elumelu Urges Further Investment In Nigeria’s Power Sector
Founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, Tony O. Elumelu has stressed the urgent need to invest in Nigeria’s power sector, addressing the paradox of a nation rich in gas resources yet struggling with power shortages.
Elumelu, who delivered a stirring address at the Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) Annual General Conference yesterday, also made a resounding call for unity and concerted action.
Speaking before a distinguished audience, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Elumelu underscored the imperative of nation building in Nigeria.
He hailed the recent economic decisions that have been taken to address systemic issues and encouraged further boldness in policymaking.

Gas Shortage Affecting Power Plants’ Operation, Elumelu Tells FG
Lack of adequate gas supply is affecting the operations of power plants in the country, the Founder of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, Tony Elumelu, has revealed.
This, he implied, was affecting electricity supply in the country. He stated this on Sunday at the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association.
During his remarks at the event, he said it was time for the country to invest in its power sector and create regulatory structures that would deliver sustainable power supply to the people, schools, hospitals, and industries.

Nigeria Needs N2trn to Achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060 – Energy Experts
Energy experts at the weekend said Nigeria needs no less than N1.9 trillion to successfully implement an Net Zero Emissions plan under the Nigerian Energy Transition Plan (ETP).
They stated this at the 85th Power Dialogue organised by The Electricity Hub, TEH, in Abuja, with the themes – ‘Analyzing the Nigerian Energy Transition Plan’ – and ‘Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan: Reforms and Implementation.’
They contended that the ETP would remain just a plan if a feasible pathway is not evolved, especially as the challenge of financing gas initiatives has emerged due to the plan.
Power Minister Begs Nigerians to Stop Cursing Electricity Workers
The minister made the appeal during a visit to the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Friday, August 25, 2023.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor disclosed that his vision for the ministry was to leverage the recently signed Electricity Act, which provided new paths to power provision and encouraged collaboration among states and the Federal Government.
Adelabu vowed that the power ministry under his guidance would push for robust partnerships between the private and the public sectors and build upon the foundation set in place by his predecessors.
Kwara Community Oke-Oyi Laments 18-Month Electricity Blackout
Ahmed Seriki, the chairman of Oke-Oyi community development association of Ilorin East LGA in Kwara, has called on Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to restore to electricity to the area after 18 months of power outage
In an interview on Sunday in Ilorin, Mr Seriki decried the situation and appealed to IBEDC to urgently address the issue.
The situation, Mr Seriki said, has adversely affected commercial activities in the area, amidst prevailing economic hardship.
“We urge the appropriate authorities, particularly the state Governor and the IBEDC, to restore the power outage in the town. The power outage has paralysed socio-economic activities in this community,” Mr Seriki said.

Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, to Experience Blackout Six Days
The Jos Electricity Distribution Company has announced that its customers in Plateau, Bauchi, and Gombe states would experience power outages from August 28 to September 2.
The planned outage will last from 9 am to 5 pm daily for the six days.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Friday Elijah, on Saturday in Jos.
Elijah explained that the planned outage by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) was to enable its local engineering, procurement, and construction contractors make installations.
