Nigeria Must Embrace Renewable Energy, Says NBCC
The Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce has said Nigeria’s transition to renewable energy is “no longer a choice but a must”.
The assertion was made at the Renewable Energy Roundtable conference themed ‘Renewable Energies: Innovation, Transition, Opportunities and Challenges’ in Lagos on Thursday.
The President and Chairman of Council, NBCC, Ray Relly, said renewable energy had taken shape more than ever before in the global space.
According to him, Nigeria must unite with the rest of the world to ensure a seamless transition through the use of new technologies, policies enactment and implementation of those policies.

Transcorp to Boost Nigeria’s Power Capacity by 300mw
Transcorp Group has said it hopes to raise Nigeria’s power capacity by 300MW by the end of 2023.
Speaking on AriseTV, Group Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Group, Owen Omogiafo, said that resounding the gas challenge will enable the company to achieve it’s milestone.
According to the Transcorp GCEO, despite the gas and transmission challenges, the company still witnessed an impressive improvement in its power business in the first six months of this year (2023).
“Transcorp has an installed generation capacity of nearly 2000MW, and in the first half of the year, we focused greatly on improving our mechanical available capacity and we took our capacity to about 900MW.

Expert Urges FG To Fix Ajaokuta Steel, Power Sector.
The NCD Manager at MG Vowgas Group, David Editang, has advised the federal government to fix Ajaokuta steel in order to address the frustration of manufacturers in the country.
Speaking at the Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition, Editang said the new administration should look at how to make steel accessible because it is needed to fabricate structures.
Editang said, “An epidemic in the country is power and steel it has been a recurring decimal in our space and if the government does not fix it up it will frustrate manufacturers.

PHED Warns Against Mounting Structures, Trading Under Power Lines
The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) has warned the public against erecting, trading, or living under power lines in her franchise areas.
The warning followed the recent electrocution of nine persons while attempting to erect a billboard under the power line. Five people died in the incident, while four survived.
The Rivers State Police Command also arrested the assistant pastor of the church that owns the billboard.
But PHED in a statement by its Head, Corporate Communications, Olubukola Ilevbare, lamented that countless numbers of residential buildings, shops, bars, markets, and other life-threatening activities are conducted near power lines as observed by the company’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department.

NERC Warns That Non-Compliance With Electricity Act Will Cost Utilities nearly N20 Million Daily
