DisCos to Upgrade Customers to STS Rollover Before Year End
Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos are expected to upgrade customer meters to the new Standard Transfer Specification (STS),
The scheme aims to upgrade meters to start in August and should be completed before November 24.
The STS is/ a metering code, to be introduced soon and is not targeted toward increasing electricity tariffs, it functions as software of an international standard, that operates as a secure message system for carrying information between a point of sale (PoS) and a meter.

Two Firms to Supply Ikeja Electric Customized Electricity Cables
Ikeja Electric Plc has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two renowned Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Kabelmetal Nigeria Plc and Nigerchin Limited, for the supply of customized electricity cables for its network.
The MoU will ensure that quality materials are provided to the company in its franchise state to allow for the effective distribution of electricity.
Speaking during the formal sign-off at the company’s corporate headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos, the chief executive of Ikeja Electric, Mrs Folake Soetan, expressed her excitement over the efforts of the companies in realising this laudable feat, saying that it was a step in the right direction.

Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission Introduces New Review Policy for Transmission Company
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced that it will review all capital expenditure by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) above N5 billion and any revisions of existing contract sum above 15 percent. The NERC has instructed the TCN to submit a proposed annual investment plan and revenue requirements/budgets/estimates by 31 October of the preceding financial year for review and approval.

AI, emerging technologies, best approach to reliable power delivery, says Prof Momoh
Director, Center for Energy Systems and Control, Howard University, Prof James Momoh, Monday, disclosed how Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies can enhance reliable power delivery in Nigeria.
This was in view of the challenges of smart grid development, resource utilization, balancing of available supply with demand, environmental protection as well as control of electricity network.
According to him, these approaches will empower the present grid to be more reliable, sustainable, cost effective, customer eccentric as well as ensuring that carbon detoxification is achieved.
