X-raying Ibom Power Electricity Distribution Trajectory
It was 4.36 pm. The day was Friday, January 20, 2023. The official Twitter handle of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) announced that it has issued a license to Ibom Power Company to distribute electricity in Akwa Ibom State.
The news from the Commission reads: “The Commission has approved the application from Ibom Utility Company to operate an independent electricity distribution network licence, which will enable Ibom Utility Company to distribute electricity in selected locations in Akwa Ibom State.

Akpoti-Uduaghan Donates N2.4m to Fix Light in Kogi Community
After seven years in darkness, Anomi Community in Okehi Local Council of Kogi State is hopeful of electricity from the national grid in no time, as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has provided money required to fix their electricity.
Akpoti-Uduaghan donated the N2.4 million needed by the community to fix the electricity problem as part of her community intervention in Kogi Central.

Africa 10 MW Kumbotso Solar Plant Now Operational in Nigeria
The first-ever grid-connected solar power plant in Nigeria has been inaugurated in Kano State by President Muhammadu Buhari. The 10 MWp solar energy facility required an investment of $15 million.The renewable energy power plant is built on a 24-hectare site in the Kumbotso Local Government Area. The project demonstrates proof of a successful medium-sized solar energy deployment in Nigeria and will catalyze the growth of the power sector in the country.
The Kumbotso solar plant, which was tendered in 2020, is being implemented by Haske Solar Company, a special-purpose vehicle set up by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA). Haske Solar is 80% owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria, 15% by Kano State, and the rest 5% by the Kumbotso LGA.

Energy Giant BP Sees Profits Double To Record £23bn
Energy giant BP has announced record-breaking financial results, as profits more than double to £23 billion ($27.7bn) following Russia invasion of Ukraine.
BP profits follow results from rival energy companies including Shell, who last week announced recording earnings of nearly $40 billion last week.
Benard Looney, BP chief executive, announced the firm annual profits were aided by the “lowest production costs in 16 years.

Cleantech Solar to Develop 800 kWp Rooftop Solar PV System in Singapore
Cleantech Solar, a renewable energy solutions provider, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with food and beverage conglomerate YHS (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, a Yeo Hiap Seng Limited subsidiary, to develop an 800 kWp rooftop solar PV system at the latter manufacturing facility in Senoko.
The long-term partnership between Cleantech Solar and Yeo Hiap Seng is expected to generate approximately 18.5 GWh of renewable energy during the project lifetime, which amounts to a reduction of over 7.5 kilotonnes of CO2 emissions. Cleantech Solar will provide a complete turnkey solar solution, with the project being operated and maintained by Cleantech Solar throughout the term of the agreement.
Umbriel Solar Project Construction Underway for Offtaker Entergy Texas
Longroad Energy has started construction on its Umbriel Solar project, a 202 MWdc (150 MWac) PV project in Polk County, Texas, northeast of Houston, six years after it started development work.
Entergy Texas signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the project output.
Umbriel is Longroad sixth greenfield renewable energy project in Texas to reach financial close and its first in the state MISO footprint. The project is expected to reach commercial operations by the end of this year.
Hyphen to Sell Green Ammonia to Two Industrial Groups
Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, a Namibia-based company has “non-binding memorandums of understanding for the supply of green ammonia with two international organizations. These include an unnamed second and Korea-based Approtium, both of which are controlled by Australian financial institution Macquarie.
Each year, the two companies entities will purchase 250,000 and 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia, respectively.Namibia will be the source of the green ammonia. There, Hyphen plans to invest $9.4 billion in green hydrogen. The initial $4.4 billion of this investment will be used to create a capacity of 2000 MW for renewable energy. In the Tsau/Khaeb national park on the coast in southwest Namibia, solar and wind power plants will be used to produce the electricity. The joint venture between German energy company Enertrag and investor Nicholas Holdings then aims to increase its electrolysis capacity to 5 000 MW by 2030.

Seriti to Develop 155 MW of Wind Power in South Africa
South Africa will soon see the construction of a new wind farm. This is the core of the power purchase agreement (PPA) that was just signed between Seriti Resources, a South African coal firm, and Seriti Green, a division of Seriti Resources that specializes in producing renewable energy. In the eastern South African province of Mpumalanga, Seriti Green plans to construct a 155 MW wind farm.
The South African Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment has even granted environmental permission to the project, which is already far along. This is a crucial stage in building the wind farm, which will be linked to the state-owned Eskom grid to supply Seriti coal mines in the province of Mpumalanga.
