Lagos Consumers Protest Ikeja Electric Threat to Withdraw Pre-paid Meters
A group of entrepreneurs and customers of Ikeja Electric Plc in Lagos State have sent a Save Our Sour (SOS) to the minister for power of the firm’s threat to withdraw pre-paid metres.
They accused the electricity distribution company of desperate attempts to crush their operations.
Specifically, the consumers accused the officials of the energy supplier, believed to be the largest electricity distribution company in Nigeria, of threatening to ‘’forcefully confiscate their meters under the pretext that the consumers were operating their with what they termed ‘’old meters’’.

Blue Line Rail Will Generate Its Own Electricity
Following the commissioning of the Lagos Blue Line rail by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Lagos State Commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotosho, has said the blue lines will generate its own electricity to power its rail transportation system.
He noted that it was the first of its kind in Africa, which has its own dedicated Independent Power Plant (IPP) with four power sources thereby eliminating the fear of power outage while on the train.

Friesland Campina Reconnects to Ikeja Electric After 22 Years to Optimize Operations
Leading Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric Plc (IE), has ensured reconnection of Friesland Campina WAPCO Nigeria Plc after over two decades of using alternative source of power.
According to the Acting Head of Corporate Communications Ikeja Electric, Kingsley Okotie, the reconnection of Friesland Campina back to the grid was achieved through relentless effort of the Business Optimization team of Ikeja Electric. He said the leading food and beverage company, Friesland Campina was successfully reconnected to Sankyo 33kv feeder via 2 x 5MVA power transformers at Ogba Transmission Station which also supplies power to other maximum demand customers.
State House Will Lead Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan – Gambari
Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has declared that the State House will lead the way in keying into the global shift towards renewable energy choices by government institutions in line with Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan.
According to a statement by the director of information, State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, the Plan seeks to tackle the dual crises of energy poverty and climate change with renewable energy contributing at least 30 per cent to the energy mix by the year 2030.

Transcorp Group Adds 138MW to Power Generation Capacity
Trans-Afam Power Ltd, a subsidiary of Transcorp Group, on Monday announced the completion of the rehabilitation of its Afam 5 GT unit 20 Gas Turbine power generating unit.
In a statement on Monday, the company said the rehabilitated unit, located at Okoloma Afam, Ndoki in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been successfully commissioned and synchronised to the national grid, bringing an additional 138MW to its existing capacity.
Transcorp Group had in 2013, through its power subsidiary, Transcorp Power Limited (TPL), acquired the 972MW gas-fired Ughelli Power Plant, which has since been transformed.
Egbin Power, Sahara Foundation Upgrade Ijede Police Station

Hungary: MET Group Completes Construction of Solar Farms
MET Group has completed the construction of the MET Gerjen solar farm and MET Söjtör solar farm, which has both now entered commercial operation.
The investments cover an area of 170 hectares altogether in the two Hungarian municipalities, where almost 180,000 solar panels have been installed. The completion of the projects was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Kenya’s Cost of Power Go Up in New Tariff Review
The cost of power for domestic consumers will go up by between 13 to 20 per cent in the new proposed tariffs, inclusive of levies and taxes. In the new tariffs, consumers under the new life-line consumption band of below 30kWh per month will pay Sh20.5 per unit from the current Sh18.14, a 13 per cent jump.
Out of the Sh20.5, Sh14 is the consumption charge meaning Sh6.5 is on taxes and levies.
If the tariffs are approved, users in this band spending Sh300 on power will get 14.6 units compared to 16.5 units.
Further, ordinary domestic consumers whose usage exceeds 30kWh per month will pay Sh26.4 per unit from the current Sh22, a 20 per cent increase.

China Surpasses the U.S. in Clean Energy Investments
China topped the world in clean energy investments last year, a trend that could challenge U.S. efforts to develop more homegrown manufacturing. Nearly half of the world’s low-carbon spending took place in China, according to a recent analysis from market research firm BloombergNEF. The country spent $546 billion in 2022 on investments that included solar and wind energy, electric vehicles and batteries, nearly four times the amount of U.S. investments, totalling $141 billion.
