Abuja Disco Alerts on Increasing Destruction of Its Assets by Vandals 

Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) yesterday expressed deep concern over the high frequency of incidents of vandalism of its electrical assets and installations across its franchise area.The Disco which covers Abuja, Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa, stated that the incidents have seriously impeded the company efforts to deliver stable and reliable power supply to its customers.

Vandals Cart Away Electricity Cables Worth N5m 

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc, AEDC, yesterday, disclosed that vandals have stolen underground cables worth over N5 million supplying electricity to Central Areas of the nation’s capital.

The utility in a statement by its Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Donald Etime expressed serious concerns over the high frequency of incidents of vandalism to its electrical assets and installations across its franchise area.

The company explained that these incidents have seriously impeded the company efforts to deliver stable and reliable power supply to its customers.

TCN Boosts Wheeling Capacity to 8,100mw 

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, said yesterday that the national grid wheeling capacity has risen to 8,100 Megawatts, with several other projects intended to expand it further nearing completion.

TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah in a statement in Abuja, said a simulation carried out on transmission capacity showed that it continued to outstrip available power generation capability.

Mbah pointed out that TCN has continued to expand the nation grid, by rehabilitating and upgrading brown field/existing projects and building new/green field projects.

Dont Take Consumers for Granted, Energy Experts Charge DisCos 

Stakeholders and electricity consumers have described as rip-off, the new increase in electricity tariff being implemented across the country by distribution companies (DisCos), despite worsening state of electricity supply in the country.

Players in the industry have also accused the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) of secret dealings, insisting the process of tariff increase has remained opaque, instead of being transparent.

Consumers Pay N199bn Energy Bill as DisCos Remit N135bn in Q1 2022 

The 11 Distribution Companies (DisCos) collected N199.9 billion from about 12 million electricity customers and remitted N135bn as energy cost while spending a balance of N64bn on staff salaries and network investments in the first three months of 2022.

According to the first quarter 2022 report released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Thursday, the DisCos billed customers N295.69bn and collected N199.9bn representing 67.36 per cent collection efficiency, slightly less than the 69% they reached in Q4 2021.

We Will Raise Power Distribution to 20,000MWTs in 4 years  Obi 

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has promised to raise Nigeria electricity distribution to 20,000 megawatts within the first four years of his administration, if elected President on February 25th.

Obi disclosed this while speaking at the People Town Hall meeting hosted by Channels Television on Sunday.

Government Commissions Rural Electrification Project in Benue

Nigeria Power Generation Capacity in Q1 2022 Drops to 4,712.34mw from 5,465.72mw Q4 2021  NERC 

Nigeria available power generation capacity in the First Quarter of 2022 decreased to 4,712.34MW from 5,465.72MW in the Fourth Quarter of 2021.

DAILY POST reports this in a Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, First Quarter 2022 Report published on January 6th, 2023.

It stated that in the First Quarter of 2022, the average hourly generationof all available units decreased by 190.58MWh/h (-4.44%) from4,294.02MWh/h in 2021/Q4 to 4,103.11MWh/h.
