Ossiomo named best independent electricity producer
Ossiomo Power Company in Edo State has been recognised as the best independent power producer in the country.
This followed power sector reforms by Governor Godwin Obaseki administration, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Project, Crusoe Osagie, said in a statement, yesterday.
The company was honoured at the 2022 Nigeria Power Sector Awards, which aims at celebrating efforts and achievements of public and private organisations and individuals in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) value chain and the renewable energy/off-grid sector.

Grid Collapse: TCN Seeks Gencos, Discos Support
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has blamed the power generation and distribution companies for the repeated collapse of the national electricity grid.Consequently, the TCN demanded that the Gencos and Discos to leave up to expectations in the delivery of electricity.Chairman, Technical and Monitoring Committee and member of the Governing Board of TCN, Nsima Ekere, disclosed this to The Tide source during a two-day official visit and inspection of the TCN store at Ojo and other transmission stations in Lagos by the Board.He called on the Discos and Gencos to make adequate investments in their networks and infrastructures for Nigerians to enjoy some level of power stability.

CBN $250m Funding: Stakeholders Expect Electricity Transmission, Distribution To Improve
Stakeholders are expecting improvement in electricity transmission and distribution as companies embark on projects funded by a $250 million intervention of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The fund meant to urgently fix existing dilapidated infrastructure in the area of electricity distribution and transmission would enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wheel more electricity on the short and enable distribution companies (DisCo) procure and repair their key interface infrastructure.

Senate kicks against concession of Zungeru Power Plant
The Senate kicked against an ongoing bid to concession the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Plant in Niger State, ordering a suspension of the process.
This came to the fore on Wednesday, as the Red Chamber considered a motion titled ‘Need for Senate intervention in the ongoing bid to concession the Zungeru Hydroeletric Power Plant in Niger State, during plenary.
The motion was sponsored by Senator Gabriel Suswam (PDP, Benue North-East) and co-sponsored by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi Abubakar (PDP, Kebbi North).

Alfashir Mega Solar Project Commissioned in Sudan
The Alfashir project is the first mega-scale solar plant in Sudan. On days with clear weather, the generation capacity reaches over 31MWh with an average range of 25-28MWh per day, equivalent to saving seven tons of Genset fuel oil daily.
More often, the daily energy share of the plant reaches above 40%. On commissioning the 5MWp Alfashir Solar Power Plant, the project significantly reduced Genset fuel consumption and improved grid reliability.
The Sudanese energy ministry self-financed the project to demonstrate technical and financial viability and encourage private sector involvement. During construction, 100 jobs were created, and six permanent jobs were held post-commissioning. In addition, to achieve gender equality, about 20 women are involved in the solar panel cleaning process.

Blitta Solar PV Plant Capacity to be Increased to 70 MWp
The Blitta solar power plant in Togo is about to be increased by 20MWp. Amea Power, a company, headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, provided the information. The solar power facility, which has been in operation since June 2021, has received $25 million in finance from the independent power producer (IPP) that owns it. The Abu Dhabi Export Office (ADEX), a financial entity of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, will provide the financing (ADFD).
The UAE banking institution and the Togolese Ministry of Economy and Finance have already signed the $25 million loan deal. According to the agreement, the solar photovoltaic plant will also have a 4 MWh storage system installed to continue generating electricity when the sun sets. Amea Power subsidiary Amea Technical Services will transport.

EU Signs Stategic Agreement with Namibia on Hydrogen
According to the European Union (EU), Namibia will supply Europe with low-carbon hydrogen. This is the goal of a collaboration established on the sidelines of the just-completed 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Hage Geingob, the president of Namibia, and Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, signed the agreement.
The collaboration covers the combined development of the green hydrogen industry and other raw materials. Namibia has a dry climate with lots of sunshine. Therefore, large-scale solar energy production could create low-carbon hydrogen thanks to this inherent capability.
A grant of £5 million will be included with this finance, which will be given by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
