Darkness Beckons As Federal Govt Directs GenCos to Reduce Power Generation
The federal government has directed power generation companies to reduce the amount of power they generate. According to a report by Leadership, the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo, Osun state, instructed some power generation companies to reduce their generation to the national grid at 12 midnight
The instruction is coming following load rejection by Distribution Companies (DisCos).
Obaseki inspects Duport Energy Park
The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has inspected the Duport Energy Park promoted by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and Duport Midstream Company Limited in Orhionmwon Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The Energy Park has 10,000 barrel-per-day refining capacity, a 50 megawatts plant capacity, a 60 million scf gas processing plant and over 100 RAM data bank centre.
The facility, on the back of ease of doing business reforms by the Obaseki-led administration, is the second refinery completed in the state, following closely behind the 6000bpd Edo Refinery constructed by AIPCC Energy Limited and Peiyang Chemical Equipment Company Limited

Lalong canvases adequate power supply in Plateau
The governor disclosed this when the management of JEDCO paid him a visit at the new Government House, Little Rayfield Jos.
Governor Lalong, who appreciated the visit of the new Managing Director, Engr Bello Abdu Muhammed, said the lack of power has been a challenge to the industrial development of the State particularly in the areas of agro-processing.
He said the state government has continued to work with the Federal Ministry of Power, TCN, and the distribution company to ensure that all obstacles are removed towards connecting the whole State to the grid.

Jos DisCo partners Police, NSCDC to catch electricity thieves
The Managing Director, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), Engr Abdu Bello Mohammed has partnered the Nigerian Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to halt the growing trend of electricity vandalism.
Mohammed made the appeal in Jos on Tuesday during a courtesy call paid to the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, Batholomew Onyeka, and the Plateau State Commandant of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Alexander Bissa Barunde in their separate offices respectively.

Anambra community threatens to shut Disco’s office over blackout
The Awka office of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company may be closed to business if the people of Umuawaulu make good of their promise.
This is because the Umuawulu Community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has threatened to shut down the office if it refuses to restore supply in the community within two weeks.
A group known as the aegis of Umuawulu Electricity Consumers Forum, in a letter addressed to the EEDC, demanded the immediate restoration of electricity supply in the area as the EEDC had concluded the de-bulking process.
The letter was jointly signed by the Coordinator/Convener, Comrade Osita Obi, and Secretary, Anazor Kingsley Onyebuchi, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.

REA Signs Contract with Five Renewable Companies for EEP Phase II
On Monday, the Rural Electrification Agency signed contracts to begin implementing the Second Phase of the World Bank-sponsored Energizing Education Programme(EEP) under the Nigeria Electrification Project.
The Federal Government’s concept of the EEP is to increase access to clean, reliable and sustainable power supply to thirty-seven (37) Federal Universities and seven (7) Teaching Hospitals using renewable energy sources. The project’s first phase was funded by green bonds issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria and was targeted to benefit nine (9) Federal Universities and one (1) teaching hospital. The EEP Phase II will be implemented in seven Federal Universities and two University Teaching Hospitals across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

EM-ONE to Deliver Reliable Power for University of Abuja
EM-ONE, an engineering and technology firm advancing the sustainable energy transition in Africa on Monday, signed a contract with the Rural Electrification Agency to deliver affordable, reliable and sustainable power to the University of Abuja, Nigeria, under the second phase of the World Bank sponsored Energizing Education project.
The company will design and build an advanced 3.1MWp PV and 2.03MWh storage microgrid project to provide access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for 14,000 students at the University. Singapore Plans Regional Electricity Imports Boost by 2035
The Manpower minister of the city-state’s second minister for trade and industry, Tan See Leng, at the Singapore International Energy Week conference, said the city-state’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) had launched requests for proposals (RFPs) for electricity import projects from the region, he added that the EMA has since received more than 20 proposals from Australia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia and Thailand and is set to import more electricity from the region and is on track to reach its import targets of up to 4 gigawatts (GW) by 2035.

War in Ukraine Likely to Speed, Not Slow, Shift to Clean Energy, I.E.A. Says
The energy crisis sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is likely to speed up rather than slow down the global transition away from fossil fuels and toward cleaner technologies like wind, solar and electric vehicles, the world’s leading energy agency said Thursday.
While some countries have been burning more fossil fuels such as coal this year in response to natural gas shortages caused by the war in Ukraine, that effect is expected to be short-lived, the International Energy Agency said in its annual World Energy Outlook, a 524-page report that forecasts global energy trends to 2050.

Europe’s energy crisis: Tough winter ahead for consumers with rising prices, utility costs
The continent is facing an energy crisis, due to its high dependency on Russian oil and gas, the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Tuesday (Oct 25).
“Europe made a mistake, despite the IEA’s years of underlining and warning that you shouldn’t rely on one single major supplier for anything,” said IEA executive director Fatih Birol.
“The bulk of the gas, and a significant part of the oil, (were) coming from one single country, which is Russia.”
